Messy (But Fun) Fundraiser!

Written by Keelin Crotty

The Student Education Association (SEA) and Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) hosted the Annual SEA Fundraiser on Thursday October 25, 2018. All who attended the event had an amazing time socializing with peers and professors while getting their hands a little sticky in some whipped cream. That’s right, the SEA Fundraiser’s theme was “Pie your Professor.” Those who donated $2 received a plate of whipped cream and were able to pie a professor in the face. All donations and proceeds will go to the SEA’s Literacy Project and Exceptional Learner Event for Spring 2019.

Some of the professors who volunteered to be pied were Prof. Cunningham, Dr. She, Dr. Cummings, Dr. Hisrich, Dean Dermer, Dr. Harrington, Dr. Vujaklija, Dr. Sharp, Prof. Mahoney, and Dr. Thompson.

The SEA would like to thank all the professors who participated in the fundraiser, and all the students and faculty that made donations to SEA.

This event was organized by Aimee York (SEA Leader, Student), Hailey Czerwinski (SEA Leader, Student), Dr. Marsh (Early Childhood professor), Dr. Pennington (Elementary Education professor), and SEA/KDP Committee Chair, Dr. Katy E.

#RedNoseDay – May 24, 2018

RedNoseDay 2

This year, Walgreens celebrates its 4th annual Red Nose Day event!

Individuals can purchase a red nose from any Walgreens store for $1.
All proceeds will help raise funds to end childhood poverty.

People can show their support by buying a red nose and posting pictures wearing them to help spread awareness to others.
Although people are encouraged to participate all throughout the month of May, the official Red Nose Day is Thursday, May 24, 2018.

Walgreens’ motto – “Every One Counts.”
According to Alex Gourlay, co-chief operating officer at Walgreens Boots Alliance and president of Walgreens, “Every One Counts means that a $1 donation can help provide nutritious food for a child or school supplies for a student. By choosing Walgreens, our customers choose to make a difference in the life of a child in need.”

In the past, the Red Nose Day event at Walgreens has “raised more than $100 million in the U.S. in three years to help end child poverty” (news.walgreens.com).

Please help support Walgreens’ campaign.
Post pictures with the following hashtags: #RedNose, #RedNoseDay, #RedNoseDayUS, #NosesOn, #GoNosetoNose

Joliet Slammers vs. Washington Wild Things Baseball Game – May 30

Joliet Slammers

Written by Jessica Dunahoo

The Student Education Association (SEA) and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society (KDP) at Governor’s State University (GSU) will be hosting a social and fundraiser to benefit the SEA and KDP. Some of the proceeds of the ticket purchases will be given to our two groups.

This baseball game and event will take place at:

Joliet Slammers Field (Joliet Route 66 Stadium)
1 Mayor Art Schultz Dr. Joliet, IL 60432

Wednesday, May 30th @ 7pm.

The Slammers (http://www.jolietslammers.com/) are a professional baseball team based at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, Illinois. Their mascot, the Jailbird dances with the crowd between innings and brings a lot of cheer to the game. This year the Joliet Slammers will be battling the Washington Wild Things in one of their first games of the season.

There was a great turn-out at this event last year; SEA leaders, faculty, and staff from GSU brought their family and friends.

Everyone is welcome to attend!  Tickets are $10 per person.

Contact any leader of faculty advisor of the SEA to purchase tickets (tickets must be purchased through a student leader in cash). For more information, contact Hannah Gruben, hgruben@student.govst.edu.

Fundraiser, Basket Drawing – Dec 2017

The Student Education Association (SEA) created fundraiser baskets in order to raise money to fund our Literacy Project in March 2018. After selling tickets throughout the month of November, SEA hosted it’s drawing live on Facebook on Dec 5th. You can find the link here.

Six baskets were raffled off, each having their own theme including Energy & Focus, School Prep, Relaxation, Cheat Day, Stay Healthy, and Winter Survival. The event was a HUGE success and we raised $280!!

SEA will use these funds to purchase books and other literacy related materials for homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, and hospitals.

Thank you very much to all who donated!
