SEA/KDP Literacy Night

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island”

-Walt Disney

The Student Education Association (SEA) at Governors State University (GSU) is part of a network of state organizations that promote reading throughout the ages. SEA hosts and takes part in many events each semester.

On Wednesday, January 29th, the Student Education Association (SEA) and Kappa Delta Pi Honors Society (KDP) took part in a pirate themed Literacy Night hosted by Monee Elementary.  Students and family members were able to partake in a variety of activities that encourages students to use their literary skills. Some of the activities included a custom pirate hat and hook, a tasty pirate boat treat, fishing for words, and a family reading circle.  With the help of our volunteers, the students were able to demonstrate their creativity.

The SEA/ KDP committee would like to thank Monee Elementary for allowing us to participate in their Literacy Night Event.  We would also like to thank all the pre-service teachers and professors that volunteered for the event.
