Pet-Palooza! Join Us for Fun and to Help a Pet Food Pantry – June 17, 2017

Pet-Palooza

by Jessica Dunahoo, 5.8.17

This year, an event is taking place to celebrate the bond between people and their furry children. Paul O’Grady and the Board of Trustees are excited to unleash Pet-Palooza, Orland Township’s Pet Fair and Parade. The purpose of the event is to benefit the Orland Township Pet Food Pantry, which is in need of food and supplies.  Pet-Palooza will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 12 to 3pm at the Township Grounds in Orland Park, IL.

The Student Education Association at Governors State University is assisting with this event.  Two student leaders, Gwen Medrano and Samantha Allen, and the faculty advisor, Dr. Katy E. Hisrich, are helping plan and organize the event with Orland Park Township.  SEA is also helping by providing volunteers, supervising events, getting donations from the community and retailers, and make animal-friendly cookies for the event (fundraiser for SEA).

We need your help! We are looking for volunteers and donations.  Artists, musicians, animal trainers are needed to donate time or materials. We also need people to set up/clean up on the day of the event, as well as spent time prior to the even to obtain donations (monetary or supplies) from retailers such as pet stores, groceries, veterinarians, and restaurants. Additionally, we need vendors to purchase a table at Pet-Palooza.

In order to support the animals and the Orland Township Pet Food Pantry, a donation of one 5- pound bag of pet food or a cash donation to the pantry is encouraged, though admission is free. All well-mannered, leashed, and tagged pets are welcome. Everybody can take part in bingo, pet events, photo contests, pet parade, pet drawings, games, and demonstrations. In addition, there will be vendors, an ask-a-vet booth, and pet adoptions.  Live entertainment and food will also be there. Families can also enjoy a kids’ zone, games, and inflatable bounce houses. Don’t forget to stop by for some homemade dog treats and a caricature of you and your dog!  See the flyers for more information.
